Jarry Late Scratch (Injury); Penguins Emergency Backup Goaltender is Mike Chiasson
On Tuesday morning, coach Mike Sullivan announced Tristan Jarry as the starting goalie. But when the warm-up began, only Casey DeSmith was present. Jarry wasn’t on the ice, and neither was another goaltender.
UPDATED: A late Penguins lineup tweet indicated Jarry was unavailable due to injury.
The Penguins will be in an emergency situation should DeSmith suffer an injury. Mike Chiasson is the Penguins’ EBUG. Chiasson is the goalie coach at the UPMC Lemieux Complex and the Penguins’ youth hockey manager.
Chiasson is 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, and would wear No. 40.
Tommy Nappier was reassigned to the Wheeling Nailers from the WBS Penguins today. Taylor Gauthier is also in Wheeling. Gauthier appeared in Penguins training camp and development camp last summer.
This season, Jarry is 16-5-5 with a .921 save percentage. He allowed just one goal in regulation against the New Jersey Devils on Sunday afternoon.
DeSmith made his 20th appearance and 19th start this season. He is 6-9-3 with a .904 save percentage and .321 goals-against average.
Penguins defenseman Kris Letang actually returned to the lineup for the first time since December 28th. He was activated from LTIR later Tuesday afternoon.
