2022 game-by-game preview for Texas football

Texas football has experienced one of the most memorable offseasons in program history in the months since the Longhorns wrapped up the 5-7 season last November. Doom and gloom seemed to be imminent for the Longhorns coming out of the bowl-less 2021 campaign, but the tides changed quickly in favor of Texas leading up to the December early signing period.

The end result was Steve Sarkisian and his staff signing the nation’s No. 5 ranked recruiting class for the 2022 cycle, including landing the former No. 1 overall prospect from the transfer portal in quarterback Quinn Ewers.

And that was only the beginning for what will be an offseason to remember for the Longhorns.

But offseason hype only goes so far once the football season kicks off, and there’s no denying that UT faithful are looking to see vast improvements on the field from the Longhorns in Year 2 of the Sarkisian era.

Caesars Sportsbook set the over / under for Texas at nine wins leading up to the 2022 season, though reaching the nine-win total will not be an easy task for the Longhorns with what lies ahead on the schedule.

According to Phil Steele’s 2022 College Football Preview magazine, Texas enters the season with the No. 15 ranked toughest schedule in the country and the toughest slate of all Big 12 teams, and will be making it through the tough schedule with a lot of inexperience at key positions, including at quarterback and across the offensive line.

The Longhorns were picked to finish fourth in the annual Big 12 preseason media poll, voted on by the media members covering the league, in a year that has had some shakeups across the conference.
