‘I almost killed her’: Gerard Butler reveals he sent co-star Hilary Swank to hospital while filming PS I Love You
He was supposed to be injured, but Gerard Butler reveals co-star Hilary Swank was actually seriously injured while filming 2007 romantic drama PS I Love You.
The 300 actor appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show this week and told the story of the accident that sent Swank to the hospital, standing alone in his boxers.
“She’s so cool and so great to work with that I almost killed her,” he explained to Barrymore.
Hilary Swank apparently forgave co-star Gerard Butler for the incident, and reunited years later at an event in 2011
The actor explained that his character, Gerry Kennedy, was meant to be hit in the face with a crocodile belt clip while being undressed, but the metal buckle ricocheted in the opposite direction and ‘cut’ Swank in the head instead.
‘The cameramen had plastic fronts to protect themselves from this crocodile clip, it was so dangerous I had to ping it and it would go past my face.
‘This time I crawl towards the bed, it gets stuck, it lets go, flies over my head, hits her in the head, chops her head. I cut her open, you could even see the teeth (of the cut).
‘She needs to be taken to the hospital. Literally, picture this studio and in three seconds everybody’s gone and I’m just sitting there in my boxer shorts and my boots and a pair of socks and I just started crying.’

He says he ‘almost took her eye out’ and ‘just made a fool of myself’ while they were filming the scene.
Years later, the heartthrob laughed about the incident while retelling the story, but said the experience gave him imposter syndrome at the time because he was so nervous about working with Swank.
During the segment, Butler also opened up about working with Katherine Heigl, Jennifer Aniston and wearing a leather speedo on the set of 300.
The actor had nothing but high praise for his former female co-stars, including Swank, who is currently pregnant with twins.
The Oscar winner first revealed she is expecting twins with her husband while appearing on Good Morning America in October.

The mom-to-be – who also shared that twins run in both her family and her husband’s – said: ‘I’m going to be a mum! And not just by one, but by two.’
“It’s so nice to be able to talk about it and share it,” she continued.
Butler can next be seen in the action film Plane co-starring Mike Colter, which hit theaters on January 13.
